Burst Test for Cylinder
1. Scope
This guideline specified the bursting test requirement and the method for fire extingusher cylinders, suitable to the bursting test for the cylinders designed and manufactured as per EN3-3 and tested according to TRG760 Sandard.
2. Sample
The 1 st cylinder and 1 from 1000 manufactured subsequently in the same lot shall be taken for the burst test.
3.Test Equipment and Fixture
3.1 Test Equipment: Electric testing pump and fittings, connecting pipings;
3.2 Measuring instruments: pressure gauge with precision higher than Grade 1.5, testing ranged is limited more than
15 Mpa (5700 Psi);
4.Test Method and Procedure
4.1 Taking the samples from the cylinders that have passed the water test. Fill the clean water with temperature not lower than 5℃ into the cylinder until it is full. Connect the cylinder with the test fixture. It is very important to make sure the connection is guaranteed to avoid the leakage which will cause the test fail.
4.2 Start the electric testing pump. Increase the pressure to 1.4Mpa (200psi) first, then relieve the pressure, repeat 4 times to release the air inside the cylinder. Then increase the pressure up to 2.6Mpa for 30 seconds.Then gradually, evenly Bitmap increase the pressure until the cylinder burst. 4.3 Stop the testing pump, and dismantle the bursted tank from the fixture.
5. When the cylinder, the whole lot represented shall be rejected:
5.1 When the cylinder burst, the pressure is lower than 5.5 Mpa (780psi);
5.2 The burst is occurred at the welding seam or heat affect area;
5.3 The burst is occurred at location which is the non longitudinal axis of the cylinder.
6.Record the test result.
Be careful that don't forget to record the total weight of cylinder during the increase pressure procedure.
